JUNKIN' GALORE

Judy and I went to an estate sale near Gilmer and bought quite a few things, then went to the Meth Store (Methodist Clothes Closet) in Gilmer.    Later in the afternoon Charlie, my husband, and I were notified about another estate sale and it was a heart breaker as the gentleman is a friend of ours.  He is a widower and about 85 years old.  His nieces and nephew have moved him to an apartment, have sold his country home and have spent two days selling his treasures off one by one.  It's not that the relatives are doing him wrong, it's time for him to be closer to the family and closer to his doctors.  Living 20 miles out in the country, alone and almost blind and stone deaf is not the best place for him.
Charlie and I went and every item we picked up, our friend had a story to tell.  In other words, we didn't get but a couple of things, but I called Judy and she called Patricia, they both being Texas Junkin's Ladies, didn't have any qualms about buying the gentleman's treasures or anything else they could get their hands on.  It took them two separate trips, but they managed to get two truck loads. Do they have any remorse?  Hell, No!  Shame, shame, shame and they owe me big time!

My haul for the entire day (the 2 estate sales and the Meth Store) ---Two vintage aprons, a nut cracker, sugar dispenser, beaded evening bag,
celluloid powder box( black, which is unusual), potato mashers and a sewing box full of old buttons.

Judy and Patricia didn't take photos of their haul, good thing as I'm pretty sure they took the gentleman's toilet along with the rest of his worldly goods.

THE DAY HAS ARRIVED

Our Grand Opening at Jack's in Pittsburg, Texas, during Chickfest, went off without a hitch.  We sold many items, saw many old friends, met many new friends and had a great time.

background.

This is Tony, Misty's son.  A good worker; we could not
have not done it without him.

Some of our things.  We call this the garden room.

Elegance next to Hardscrabble

Elegance next to Hardscrabble pretty much defines our eclectic styles.  Each of us brings a little something different to the table.  Throw in a lot of love and one hell of a good time and you have the Texas Junkin' Ladies.

BUSY, BUSY, BUSY

This has been a whirlwind week for all of us.  Judy has been in North Carolina visiting with her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.  The grandkids are just beginning to ride horses and Judy, the horsewoman from way back, felt they needed expert instructions.  She just returned today, 9/11, and said the airport security was very stringent, but no problems flying home. Will tell you more about her visit when she catches up on her sleep.

Pat has been making rocking horses with her daughter, Marie.  She hopes to get one done so she can put it in Jack's for our grand opening on September 17th.  She has also been on fire alert, like the rest of us country folk, and you simply cannot relax for fear you will have to evacuate at the drop of a hat.

Patricia and Misty have had a hard time getting Jack's ready for this Saturday.  She and Misty have worked very hard and Jack's looks outstanding.  Hard to believe it was just an empty store two weeks ago.  There is still a lot to do.  We are all going to hit it hard this week and WILL have a successful Grand Opening.

Sure I've kept hydrated, but I've done some lousy chair painting and have whipped out about 20 examples of homemade greeting cards to sell at Jack's.  Here is an example:

BRAZILIAN WAXING
SENIOR DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE

You pretty much have to be a senior to find the humor.  Seniors love our discounts, but we prefer the discount to be on food, drink, movies, etc.  A Brazilian Waxing is a waste of our time.  We don't have that much hair left to have it ripped out my some stranger.

JACK'S IS BECOMING A REALITY

Sorry I haven't been on the blog this week, but we've all been busy at Jack's-Antiques, Crafts and Collectibles.  This is a new store that is opening next to All Occasions Mall in Pittsburg.  We are trying to get Jack's ready for a Grand Opening during Chickfest, which
will be September 15, 16, 17, 2011.  Patricia, Judy and Misty are decorating, Pat is scouring garage sales and thrift shops finding those little treasures.  Michelle will probably come up with a few crafts and I'm sort of sitting around, keeping hydrated, taking photos (when I remember to bring my camera) and am giving all these gals some good advice on how to not involve me in decorating.

Jack's Store front

Remember the door removal at the demolition house?  The doors are now dividers at Jack's.

Mike, Patricia, Judy and Nat.  I'm the hydrated one behind the camera.

Upon entering Jack's you will find a garden room displayed with yard art, yard antiques, old watercans and old metal chairs.  Passing through the screened doors you will enter an antique living and dining room.  Two antique bedrooms and an antique kitchen and on the other side of the kitchen you will find the ironing board, and various washing equipment.

The Dining Room

The Kitchen, note the kitchen sink.  Guess where that came from!

There is still a ton of work to be done.  Items brought in, items priced, cleaning, rearranging and various odd and ends.  It's a damn good thing I'm keeping hydrated.
